The construction of the Basilica and Sanctuary of the Divine Niño del Milagro in Eten is one of the most anticipated by the faithful of the Lambayeque region and by Pope Leo XIV – before Chiclayo Bishop – who promoted the devotion of the only Eucharistic miracle that occurred in Peru in 1649.

The initiative, promoted by the regional government together with the Catholic Church, seeks to consolidate the place as an important center of religious pilgrimage and give a new rise to tourismas well as highlight the passage of Leo XIV on this part of Peru.
This was stated by the regional governor of Lambayeque, Jorge Pérez, in an interview for Ewtn News, in the framework of the presentation of the project “The Route of Pope Leo XIV”, which includes 21 emblematic spaces of Chiclayo and its surroundings, associated with both faith and Lambayro culture.
Within this circuit, the Sanctuary of the Divine Child of the Miracle in Eten stands, the most important place, since there will be remembered the prodigy occurred on June 2, 1649 in Santa Magdalena de Eten, on the eve of the Corpus Christi, when the Child Jesus appeared in a consecrated host, a demonstration that would be repeated days later and for the last time.
According to Pérez, the land for the new sanctuary consists of 11 hectares, of which 10 are completely released to start the works. The last hectare, however, faces a legal process initiated by a multisectoral committee that arrogates the property of the place.
Even so, the governor clarified that this will not stop the project. “That land is from the State and we will work together with the Catholic Church to move forward with this monument that is very important, because it confirms faith, hope, love and union of humanity,” said Ewtn News.
In addition, the multisectoral committee involved has the option of bringing to another place a replica of what they want, without that interfering at the beginning of the works of the new sanctuary.
“Eten is very big,” said Pérez, “they can make a replica of what they want to work anywhere, but this is a pilgrimage place exclusively for Christians and for those of faith, not for those who distort, those who harm,” the governor emphasized.
This project thus adds to “The route of Pope Leo XIV”, a four -day circuit that crosses churches, archaeological complexes and emblematic spaces of the Lambayeque, Ferreñafe and Chiclayo regions.
“We are going to carry out this construction together with the Church, because it means a place of salvation, a place of encounter, of faith and fraternity,” said the governor.
