The Diocese of Santa Marta celebrates from August 30 to September 6 the Week of Evangelization, gathering for the first time in this city to the 14 archbishops of the country.
The Evangelization Week is carried out within the framework of the fifth centenary of the foundation of the city of Santa Marta, the first of Colombia and whose central date was on July 29.

The opening mass was chaired on August 31 by the Bishop of Santa Marta, Mons. José Mario Bacci. That same day it was carried out An inaugural teaching at the Major Coliseum.
The Diocese indicated that “in parallel, from September 3 to 6, Santa Marta will host the ordinary session of the Permanent Commission of the Episcopal Conference of Colombia (CEC)”, with the presence of the 14 archbishops of the country that will arrive “to fulfill a pastoral and institutional work agenda.”
“As a gesture of closeness with the samarium people, on Thursday, September 4, each archbishop will celebrate catechesis, Eucharists and fraternal meetings in different parishes in the city and nearby municipalities, each of which will be attended by one of the bishops of the Permanent Commission,” he said.
For its part, the Episcopate highlighted “the conjunction of these two important events”, the Evangelization Week and the meeting of the Prelates, which “makes Santa Marta the epicenter of the ecclesial life of the country, which charges even more relevance in the framework of the commemoration of the 500 years of the foundation of the capital of the department of Magdalena.”
Among the most representative activities of the Evangelization Week are the Church and Society Meeting – September 5 – which consists of “a high -level conversation at Sergio Arboleda University, which will bring together bishops, academics and social leaders”.
The Episcopper reported that “this panel will have the central participation of Cardinal Luis José Ruedio Aparicio, archbishop of Bogotá and Primado de Colombia, who will reflect on Church and society: a 500 -year -old meeting. The day will conclude with a solemn Eucharist presided by the purple in the basilica cathedral. ”
On Saturday, September 6, “the conclusions of the diocesan listening process, a mass pilgrimage and a great closing Eucharist in the Basilica Cathedral” will be presented.
