The Vatican reported that Pope Francis has appointed Bishop Carlos Alberto Correa Martínez as the new Bishop of Apartadó, a Colombian diocese that tens of thousands of migrants pass through on their way to the United States.
Mons. Correa Martínez had served since February 2014 as Apostolic Vicar of Guapi, in the department of Cauca. With his new appointment, his mission will be to pastor the Church that is pilgrim in the Diocese of Apartadó, located between the departments of Antioquia and Chocó.
Within this ecclesiastical jurisdiction is the municipality of Necoclí, a point where thousands of people arrive, not only Colombians, but also Venezuelans, Haitians, Ecuadorians and other nationalities, with the aim of going by boat to Capurganá, at the other end. of the Gulf of Urabá, to then begin the dangerous journey through the Darién Gap.
