Colombia: Church in Bogotá adds to the day of prayer for peace convened by Pope Leo XIV

The archbishop of Bogotá, Cardinal Luis José Ruedio Aparicio, invited the faithful of the Colombian archdiocese to join the day of prayer and fasting for peace convened by Pope Leo XIV for tomorrow, August 22.

“We want to make a call to join the initiative of Pope Leo XIV to live a day of prayer and fast tomorrow, August 22, asking for the invaluable gift of peace in all corners of the earth and so that all those afflicted by violence and war reach the comfort,” said the purple in a statement published Thursday.

In the text, the archbishop encouraged Catholics to “encourage in their hearts a fervent desire to build the peace we need in all environments of our society.”

“The adverse conditions of our time,” he said, “must move us to contribute in the consolidation of a more just, fraternal and peaceful society. We cannot get used to the empire of death and violence, this is contrary to the joyful announcement of Easter, where Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace, has defeated death and has opened the door of hope.”

In that sense, he affirmed that “prayer and fasting are valuable actions that express our confidence in the presence of God and the co -responsibility that we have as human beings in the construction of a fair society and in peace for all.”

Therefore, he encouraged that “in all the ecclesial environments of the Archdiocese of Bogotá, the conditions for this day of fasting and prayer are motivated and carried out under the assistance of the blessed virgin Mary Reina, whose memory we celebrate, and who confident the paths of peace and comfort for so many brothers and sisters of our country that suffer from the recreational of violence”.

Yesterday Wednesday, Pope Leo XIV summoned a day of fasting and prayer for peace, which will take place tomorrow, August 22, a liturgical party of Santa María Reina, “also invoked as Queen of Peace.”

“While the Earth continues to be injured by wars in the Holy Land, Ukraine and many other regions of the world, I invite all the faithful to live a day, on August 22, with fasting and prayer, asking the Lord to grant us peace and justice and to dry them the tear of those who suffer from the ongoing armed conflicts,” said the Pontiff.
