Colombia: Catholic Church brings food to populations confined by violence in Chocó

The prelate indicated that in the event that “these different groups, all of them, enter into a dialogue or agreement table, and if the favor is asked of us as a Church, we will be willing—in what corresponds to us as a Church—to to mediate, to accompany”, being at the same time the voice of the populations.

“I have always said it and I stand by it, and we all stand by it in the diocese, that as a Church we want to help if we are asked for that help. We already do it in accompaniment, closeness to the communities,” he stated.

Regarding the actions of the ELN in Chocó, the Colombian government reported that it will take this case to the negotiating table it maintains with the guerrilla.

In the case of the Clan del Golfo, President Gustavo Petro said that this organization “is not in any negotiation with the government” and that, “if they are not able to dismantle their groups as we have requested, they will simply be destroyed by the State.”
