The Archdiocese of Bogotá (Colombia) has invited the faithful to collaborate with the Christian Communication of Goods campaign, which is carried out during Lent, to raise funds and build a community kitchen for people in need in the Diocese of Riohacha .
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE), 66.3% of the population of the department of La Guajira, in which the Diocese of Riohacha is located, presents monetary poverty (757,000 people), while 39.7% suffers from extreme poverty (454,000 people).
In a note published in El Catolicismo, the media of the Archdiocese of Bogotá, it is pointed out that in La Guajira there are also problems of malnutrition, lack of public services and “the difficulty of access to the different places where indigenous communities are found, among them others”.
