Colapinto’s “Cobra” and the other jewels that will shine at a car show

At a time when car shows have lost presence, other types of events related to the automotive industry are beginning to gain greater relevance. And one of those who wants to start shining is the Motor Show which will take place this weekend in Nordelta.

It is a meeting that promises to bring together car lovers in a couple of days that will have more than 120 cars on display, including classics, modern and high-end models and supercars.

The event will take place on August 24 and 25 at Nordelta Centroin the north of Greater Buenos Aires and will have a noble purpose: to raise funds to benefit the Nordelta Foundation and Judaica Norte. Among the latter, Emiliano Diez and his pedal cars will be present: the Piquiritos brand will make part of its artisanal production available to the children.

What can be seen at the Motor Show

In the last two months, as the event approached, the organizers of the Motor Show revealed which stars were going to be present at the show.

There will be a significant variety of modern vehicles, many of them supercars. The one that will surely take most of the phone photos will be the Ferrari 488 Pista, a coupe with more than 720 horsepower capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds and reaching 340 km/h in maximum speed.

It will not be the only Ferrari, since the exhibition will have the participation of the Ferrari Club Argentino. Likewise, the Porsche Club and the Cobra Club Argentina will be present.

There will be several historical exponents of the national industry, with specimens of Falcon, Chevy, Torino y Dodgeamong others. Several all-time icons of the American industry and a selection from the 90s of the Japanese will also be on display: Honda NSX, Nissan 300ZX and Silvia and Mitsubishi 3000GT, to name a few.

There will also be competition cars, with several historic national motorsports and the presence of the Minardi F1 cars driven by Esteban Tuero and Gastón Mazzacane in the highest category.

But in Clarion We made the following selection of the must-see items from this exhibition for fans of the automotive world:

Ferrari 250 GT Luxury

It is one of the most beautiful models in the history of the Maranello house. Built between 1962 and 1964was developed based on the 250 GTO, which currently represents the most exclusive of the brand in its entire history, with examples that sold for more than 70 million dollars.

But the 250 GT Lusso was a slim two-seater, with a lot of power and dynamics but more designed for the road than for competitions. The construction was in the hands of Scaglietti and only 350 units were manufactured.

Its engine is a 3.0-liter 12-cylinder V, which produced 240 horsepower largely due to the presence of 3 Weber carburetors. It had two variants of gearboxes, since they came equipped with four- and five-speed transmissions.

Around the world, several examples of 250 GT Lusso were sold for figures approaching 3 million dollars in recent auctions.

Bessia Biscayne Roadster

Also known as “The Argentine Cobra”, it is a national replica of the famous American sports car. Named as Biscayne Roadsteris manufactured by Bessia Motorsport in Don Torcuato.

Osvaldo Bessia, former Argentine driver, founded the company that bears his name and designed a specific chassis for the model that is manufactured by hand. While it looks like a Cobra, there are many differences under the body.

Although it will be surrounded by other Cobra examples, this one will have a particular and unique flavor, since it was the car that Franco Colapinto drove on his last visit to Argentina.

The Narrow Falcon

Road Tourism had one of its most ingenious stages during the latter part of the 60s. The official Ford team’s commitment to leave behind the emblematic era of the cupecitas took shape with another legend: that of the narrow falcon.

That Falcon had the floor narrowed at the height of the baseboards by 14 centimeters, and the side pillars had also been modified to reduce their height by another 5 centimeters. In addition, the back was narrowed by 20 centimeters.

Only 11 units were manufactured of the Narrow Falcon. The first victory came in 1968, with Carmelo Galbato. But the following year Ford changed its sports policy and with that, at least officially, the participation of the Falcon Angostado in the TC ended.

Some of the pilots who drove it were a young Carlos Reutemann, Carlos Menditeguy and Dante Emiliozzi, among others.

Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gull Wings

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL is a two-seater sports car that the German brand manufactured between 1954 and 1963. Only 3,258 examples were built. It became famous under the name Alas de Gaviota, due to the way its doors opened upwards.

This particularity was not whimsical but had its explanation: since it was derived from a competition model, it had a tubular chassis that surrounded the entire car and forced that solution to be used to access the cabin.

Inspired by racing, a street car with a unique personality which was presented for the first time at the New York Motor Show in 1954. The objective was that it would reach the American market, at the suggestion of Max Hoffman, the importer of Daimler AG in The Big Apple.

The engine reached 245 HP, combined with a four-speed gearbox. It was capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just over eight seconds and reaching 260 km/h, important records for the time.
