Christmas 2025: This will be the manger and the tree that will decorate the Plaza de San Pedro

A red fir from the Autonomous Province of Bolzano and a manger of Salerno will decorate the Plaza de San Pedro during the next Christmas, according to the Vatican governorate this Friday.

The tree, from the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, in Trentino-Alto Adigio, and offered by the municipalities of Lagundo and last, will rise to 27 meters in the Plaza de San Pedro.

The manger that will be installed in the most representative square of the Vatican is originally from the province of Salerno, in Campania, where the Diocese of Nocera Lower is located.

As usual, it will have typical elements of the area. On this occasion, a reproduction of the Paleo -Christian Baptistery of Nocera Superoe can be contemplated, together with the Helvius fountain located in Sant’Egidio del Monte Albino and a typical house of the courtyards of the agriculture.

The Bethlehem also integrates religious symbols, elements of the territory and exemplary figures of local spirituality. Thus, on the ground floor of the mystery where the mystery of the incarnation of the Son of God is evoked, a shepherd is represented with the features of God’s servant Don Enrico Smaldone, “together with two children, who is about to upload a staircase that indicates Christ as the only center of the educational road.”

Smaldone was ordered priest in 1941, in full development of World War II. In 1949, after watching the movie The city of the boysstarring Spencer Tracy and Mickey Rooney, decided to undertake a similar work in favor of war orphans and abandoned children.

The manger that will be installed in the Plaza de San Pedro also integrates it “a house that remembers the typical patios of local homes, with a large gray toba portal of Nocera, which gives access to a wide stay.”

There is a picture of the Virgen of the three crowns of Sarnno, a very rooted vocation in the area, “whose image has been made by the Florista Masters of the Infalata Di Casatori.”

San Alfonso María de Ligorio, founder of the Redeemer and Doctor of the Church, will also be present. You get off the stars (You get off the stars), a carol composed of the Italian saint.

The center of the installation is reserved for the Holy Family, next to ox and the mule, before whom the three Magi are prostrated in worship. Among other characters, the features of God’s servant Alfonso Russo have been taken to give life to another shepherd, as a symbol of the value of suffering and volunteering. Russo founded the pia union of patients of Christ salvation whose charisma is that of the “sanctification and valorization of suffering lived as a vocation and mission in the Church.”

At the bottom of the scene that will be recreated in the Plaza de San Pedro, a fisherman with a great anchor, he will indicate the Santa Open Gate of the Basilica of San Pedro, symbol of the jubilee. The scene will not lack “a great light starge with its tail in the form of anchor.”

The Paul VI classroom of the Vatican will be ornamented with a manger elaborated in Costa Rica under the motto “Birth Gaudium”, works by the artist Paula Sáenz Soto who wants to “call a call to the world to protect life from its conception.”
