Chile: The new apostolic nuncio presented his credentials to President Boric

Mons. Kurian Mathew Vayalunkal, recently arrived in Chile to fulfill his mission as an apostolic nuncio in the country, presented his credential letters to the president of the nation, Gabriel Buric.

The ceremony took place on Wednesday afternoon August 13 at the Palacio de la Moneda, where the representative of the Holy See in Chile arrived accompanied by the president of the Episcopal Conference, Mons. René Rebolledo Salinas and by the secretary of the Apostolic Nunciature, Mons. Giuseppe Silvestrrini.

He also stressed that the presentation of his credentials to the President gives the opportunity to “express to the authorities and all the Chilean people the greetings of His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV, who sent me as an apostolic nuncio here, to this beautiful country, rich in history and traditions.”

In her person, the Holy See “wishes to continue and deepen the good relations that exist between it and Chile,” he guaranteed.

“In this sense, in accordance with the constitution of the country, the Holy See and the Catholic Church in Chile will continue to defend the essential values of life and the human person, and promoting a policy of peace and dialogue,” he emphasized.

Vayalunkal acknowledged that he arrives in Chile “with an open heart, eager to know this beautiful country, its people, and to share the wealth of their faith and hope” and said that “Pope Leo XIV takes them very close to the heart, and sends me as his representative to walk with you, in the spirit of fraternity, service and communion”.

Mons. Rebolledo Salinas, president of the Episcopate, admitted that “accompanying the Apostolic Nuncio in this solemn act of the delivery of credentials to the President of the Republic, has been a beautiful opportunity to keep in mind his high mission before the State and what his collaboration with the authorities for the common good, justice, peace, solidarity and so many other assets.”
