Chile: Catholic Congress and Public Life puts hope in response to concerns

At 20 years after its emergence, a new edition of the Catholic Congress and Public Life will take place in Chile, which will address the current problems in the light of the motto “Hope is the answer.”

Organized by the Santo Tomás University, with the support of the Archbishopric of Santiago and with the special blessing of the then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, this Congress began in 2005, inspired by the experience of the San Pablo CEU University of Spain.

The Catholic Congress and Public Life will offer an academic space for those Catholics interested in reflecting on different aspects of life in the light of the Gospel, not only in the personal dimension but also in the social and labor fields.

To do this, testimonies of prominent personalities in different areas will be worth.

This year, in its 21st edition, and with the slogan “Hope is the answer”, Congress will have two venues: Talca, on June 10; and Antofagasta, on June 12. Within that framework, the encounter from faith will be promoted, to revive the hope that its root has in confidence in God.

Among the issues of interest of Congress, this year, concerns such as poverty, violence, health, rurality, migration and mental health are highlighted.

In that context, and inspired by the papal bull that convened the 2025 jubilee, Lor Organizers express: “In the heart of every person, hope as desire and expectation of good, even ignoring what will bring with it tomorrow. However, we often find discouraged people, who look at the future with skepticism and pessimism, as if nothing could offer them happiness. That the jubilee is for all. Hope ”.

In Talca, the appointment is June 10 at 8:30 am. The day will begin with a Mass presided by the local bishop, Mons. Galo Fernández. Different specialists-abogers, doctors, educators, philosophers, etc.-will then head conversations and dialogue tables, to end an artistic-cultural closure and coffee.

In Antofagasta, Congress will take place on June 12 from 9:00 a.m. The opening mass will be chaired by Mons. Ignacio Ducasse, Archbishop of Antofagasta, and the program will be similar to that of Talca, with professionals in the areas of engineering, psychology, journalism, teaching, etc. The closure will be in charge of the Catholic singer -songwriter Fernando Leiva.
