The authorities of the Chilean Episcopate expressed in a statement their shock and pain over the murder of three police officers in the Cañete area, praying for the victims, their families, the institution and urging peace.
The triple homicide occurred in the early hours of Saturday, in the town located 500 km south of the capital, Santiago. According to the portal Emolthe Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, pointed out that it was an attack that “we had never seen” in the country.
The victims are Carlos Cisterna, Sergio Arévalo and Misael Vidal, members of the Carabineros de Chile institution, who were ambushed when they were traveling aboard an armored truck to supervise compliance with a night-time prison measure.
