Bishop García-Siller explained that in 2010, the then Archbishop of San Antonio and current Archbishop of Los Angeles, Bishop José Gomez, approved the mission founded by Father Foster, as a “Catholic apostolate” in which only the priest, his sister and former religious Mary Foster, his cousin William Roderique, his nephew Joseph Jebbia and one more member who is not related, Araceli Granados Gantner.
The MDM was established as a sanctuary and a place of retreat, calling itself and in its website a “small contemplative Roman Catholic community”, although it is not recognized as such.
The group indicates that its “official status” is that of a “private association of faithful with legal personality” that invites the public “to pray, to community masses and Holy Hours of adoration. Our apostolate also includes retreats, such as silent retreats known as Encounter with Jesus (EWJ) y Cor Jesu”, with content in English and Spanish.
