Catholic Church in the Philippines: Millions attend Black Nazarene procession

More than 6 million faithful participated this Tuesday, January 9, in the Black Nazarene procession in Manila, the largest and most important devotion in the Philippines, the country with the most Catholics on the Asian continent.

This year the procession had greater importance than usual, given that it was the first to be carried out normally after the restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, between 2021 and 2023.

“I’m very happy that the old system is back and we can do this again,” Jonathan Rancho told Reuters. The 52-year-old man traveled with his wife and two children from Bulacan province to Manila to be in the procession and pray to the Lord for good luck at work.
