The text indicates that the country is experiencing a reality “that in addition to the high number of deaths, has left deep sadness and pain in many families.”
According to official data from the Ministry of Security and Citizen ProtectionIn the months of September and October of this year alone, more than 5,000 people have died from intentional homicides.
The Church bases its request on the message of love and compassion that the Virgin of Guadalupe represents. The editorial recalls the words attributed to the “Morenita del Tepeyac”: “Am I not here, I am your mother? Why do you doubt?”, emphasizing that this “promise of consolation can be our strength that cements a more just nation.” and peaceful.”
The proposal is not limited only to criminal groups. Faith also calls for it to be “a period in which respect and dialogue prevail, in which political groups also abandon hostile and polarizing communication,” seeking to recover “the immense value of human dignity, that has currently been so degraded.
The archdiocese sees this truce as a possible first step toward a more lasting peace. “If we demonstrate that we can make this truce effective for one day, why not dream of a solid and lasting peace?” states the editorial.
This request is made in the context of Advent, with the wish that “this Christmas each family can sit together at the table, without the shadow of mourning caused by violence.”
The editorial concludes with the hope that this truce is “our gift to the Virgin of Guadalupe and the Child Jesus,” and that it can become “the commitment of a people that seeks to heal their wounds and build a new path.”
