Given the difficult economic situation, which affects the daily reality of many families living in poverty, the Dialogue Table for the Dignity of the Peripheries of the city of Mar del Plata (Argentina), requested that a food emergency be declared for the district.
The Dialogue Table is a space convened by the Bishopric of Mar del Plata, made up of organizations that have different degrees of social responsibility, including different religious denominations, the National University of Mar del Plata, private universities, social movements, business chambers, non-governmental organizations, Caritas and unions.

In a note addressed to the Honorable Deliberative Council of Mar del Plata, the Board requested that a food emergency be declared for the district of General Pueyrredón (party to which the city belongs) to, in this way, expedite the provision of food, and offer from the political sector a commitment to the poorest.
In addition to facilitating the provision of merchandise, the emergency redirects the focus of public policies towards the peripheries, the Roundtable assured.
When arguing the request, they recalled that during the pandemic, 20,000 kilos of food were delivered per week from the Municipality; a figure that last year was reduced to 10,000 per fortnight; and currently those deliveries have ceased, removing assistance from many families.
“The situation in the peripheries of General Pueyrredon is painful and urgent,” they noted, considering that only joint action between the community, organizations and the State will make it possible to confront this crisis.
Ana Laura Vulcano, member of the Dialogue Table, stated in dialogue with LU9 who from space seek to “accompany this situation” of the peripheries that “are going through many pains, many needs.”
The food emergency, he noted, is presented as “a tool that we want the Executive Branch of the city to have to be able to quickly address solutions.”
“We are sure that the different blocks will accompany us, because it would be very important for the city, for this part of the city that needs it (…) we hope that they will accompany us,” he highlighted.
