In the context of this “global crisis” and the challenges that Mexico faces, in a statement Released this October 4, the Conference of the Mexican Episcopate (CEM) urged the faithful to make additional sacrifices and go to temples, parishes, cathedrals and basilicas to pray, especially before the Blessed Sacrament.

5 special prayer intentions for Mexico

The first intention for which the Mexican bishops ask to pray this October 7 is “the success of the Dialogue and the National Agenda for peace”, initiatives promoted by the CEM in collaboration with the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and the Conference of Superiors Mayors of Religious of Mexico (CIRM), to promote “reconciliation and justice.”

Next, the bishops asked to pray for “the new government” of Mexico, headed by Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the first woman to assume the country’s presidency. The prelates highlighted the importance of Catholics raising their prayers so that the actions of the new president, who took office on October 1, “are oriented toward the common good and the construction of a peaceful society.”

As a third intention, they asked to pray for “the victims of violence,” especially “for the migrants recently murdered in Chiapas, and so that the authorities can clarify the events,” which occurred on October 1 on the highway that connects the towns of Villa Comaltitlán and Huixtla, about 70 kilometers north of Mexico’s border with Guatemala.

In this sense, in their fourth prayer intention, the bishops urged people to pray so that the authorities carry out “a review of immigration policies, based on respect for human dignity.”

Finally, the Catholic Church asked Catholics to pray both for the “conversion of those who promote violence” and for “those who should protect and ensure the safety of all.”

“We invite you to join in this powerful prayer that, when contemplating Christ with Mary, becomes a cry for peace in the Middle East, in our country and in the entire world,” expressed the Episcopate.

At the conclusion of their message, the bishops asked that the Virgin of Guadalupe “intercede for the world, and especially for our nation, inspiring us to work for peace.”
