The incident occurred within the framework of the Festivity of the Divine Infantita, a Marian invocation that represents the Virgin Mary in her childhood. This celebration, linked to the Nativity of the Virgin, is commemorated every September 8 and has its roots in Mexico City in the mid -nineteenth century.
It is not the first time that an event of this type is recorded during religious celebrations. In April of this year, during the Patronal Fair of the People of San Pedro Mártir, in Mexico City, an explosion affected the roof of the main church, where pyrotechnics used in traditional festivities was stored, causing damage to some attendees.
On that occasion, the primacy archdiocese of Mexico regretted what happened and stressed that these situations “force to reflect on the use of pyrotechnics in religious celebrations.”
Diocese asks for those affected

Francisco Escobar Galicia, Bishop of Teotihuacán, lamented the event and asked the Catholic communities “to take precautions in the management of pyrotechnics, complying with the civil protection requirements and prioritizing the safety and well -being of all attendees.”
Finally, the Diocese urged to pray “for the health and prompt recovery of those who have been affected by this event and ask our mother from heaven, to take care of all their children.”
Similarly, the parish of San Sebastián Mártir, custodian of the image of the Divine Infantita, solicitous the “powerful intercession” of the Marian invocation to ask that “relieve suffering and renew hope in the midst of this tragedy” of those affected.
