Carlo Acutis y Pier Giorgio Frassati Ya Son Santos

Pope Leo XIV proclaimed Saints of the Catholic Church to the Italians Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati, in a mass ceremony held in the Plaza de San Pedro del Vaticano.

At the edge of 10:22 (local time) in the morning, the Pontiff first pronounced the solemn canonization formula for the first time, by which the Church decrees the veneration of a new saint among the faithful.

The statement was received with a long applause from the more than 70,000 Catholics present in the square, while hundreds of thousands of people followed the Mass through television and digital platforms worldwide.

Acutis, born in London in 1991 and who died in Monza in 2006 at age 15, is known as the “cyber and the Eucharist” for his work of evangelization on the Internet. It thus becomes the first saint of the 21st century, very close to young generations.

Frassati, an engineering student and Catholic Action activist, died in Turin in 1925 at age 24. His figure, linked to the defense of the poor and university life, has been a spiritual reference in Italy for decades and beyond. Acutis and Frassati canonizations are the first of the Pontificate of Leo XIV, started after his choice in May of this year.
