Caritas Venezuela attends more than 100,000 people affected by the rains

Cáritas Venezuela has delivered 160 tons of essential supplies to more than 100,000 people affected by The rains and floods of the rivers in the Andean region of Venezuela (states Táchira, Mérida and Trujillo) during the month of June.

Carlos Zambrano, director of Cáritas Mérida, said in a press conference on August 20 that “emergency aid has reached more than 100,000 people.” Also, in support of families, the organization has facilitated “accompaniment and psychosocial support to more than 8,000 families.”

At the same time, he has activated different emergency programs: “Health Conference with medicines delivery” and with the support of medical specialists, also “nutritional care” and hygiene.

“Supplies include food, water, clothing, hygiene items, mattresses and tents, essential for those who have lost everything. The Church, despite everything, and through Cáritas it remains firm in its commitment for the most vulnerable,” said Mons. José Luis Azuaje, president of Cáritas Venezuela and Archbishop of Maracaibo.

“This work has been possible thanks to a work in alliance, with the private company and the Oenegés, which is complemented by the unity of the entire Catholic Church, the donations of the people, the support of the banking and the help of Venezuelans abroad, who have contributed their compatriots,” added Mons. Azuaje.

Janeth Márquez, director of Caritas Venezuela, said that “we are here to serve, but we need to allow us to reach those who need it most.” Márquez said that government restrictions should not hinder the work of the organization.

“What we want is to try to help and let us help us (…) The worst thing that can happen to us is that we are not,” he said. “The lack of access to food and drinking water is hitting families, especially the little ones,” he added.
