“The objective is to support internally displaced people and people at risk of displacement, affected by the ongoing conflict on the southern borders, to meet their acute needs in terms of health care, protection and basic needs,” explains Pablo Reyero, coordinator of the Middle East team of the International Cooperation area of Cáritas Española, in a statement from the entity.

With this new charitable impulse from the Catholic Church that is on pilgrimage in Spain, it seeks to “provide quality medical care services to some 4,000 people in the South Lebanon region” through two primary care centers and three mobile medical units.

These funds will cover nearly 3,000 medical consultations, hundreds of diagnostic tests, 5,000 boxes with specialized medications for “acute and chronic conditions” and the hospitalization costs of a hundred vulnerable people.

“Emergency aid also includes the provision of food, hygiene kits, cash aid, psychosocial care and safe shelter for women and minors who are victims of gender violence or are at risk,” Cáritas Española states. .

The consequences of the war in the Holy Land are felt both in Lebanon and in Gaza and the West Bank, places where the population is displaced and lives in poverty, while most of the houses are destroyed.

Furthermore, the destruction of public infrastructure causes the collapse of basic services while the economic crisis and food insecurity worsen, among other issues.

“The crisis in Gaza and the West Bank will continue to be a humanitarian challenge. Restrictions on access and movement, lack of essential resources, and damage to infrastructure make aid provision and reconstruction difficult. Despite humanitarian intervention, the needs far exceed the response capacity, which generates a situation of critical vulnerability for millions of people,” says Pablo Reyero.

A year ago Hamas carried out a massacre against Jewish citizens, some of whom are still kidnapped, and Israel unleashed a series of response actions first in Gaza and then in neighboring countries such as Lebanon. In the last few hours, Iran has also entered the scene by launching hundreds of missiles against Israel.

In this time, Cáritas Española has mobilized 350,000 euros, of which 200,000 come from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
