According to reports Celam DNAin a Mass that he presided on January 6, the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord, the cardinal highlighted that “this is a political year for Honduras, but we must not lose sight of the fact that it is also a Holy Year, a Jubilee of hope.”
In that sense, the cardinal encouraged people not to become “indigested by politics” and encouraged the faithful to let themselves be guided by the Lord: “We must seek God, follow our creator and not the politicians.”
Cardinal Rodríguez Maradiaga also encouraged making some personal sacrifices as signs of personal commitment: “for example, I do not want there to be fights in my house this year and I am committed to controlling my desire for power.”
Remembering the star that guided the three Wise Men, the Archbishop Emeritus of Tegucigalpa said that “we should not follow a star that guides towards resentment, but rather seek peace and love in our lives, especially in this time of grace.”
The cardinal also asked to keep hope and faith alive thinking about a better future for Honduras. “Hope and faith are fundamental pillars that must be kept alive in the hearts and prayers of every Honduran.”
The Jubilee of the Catholic Church
The Jubilee of Hope 2025, inaugurated by Pope Francis on December 24 with the opening of the Door of St. Peter’s Basilica, is a very important event for Catholics because it offers an extraordinary opportunity to achieve salvation and experience that God’s holiness can transform us.
It is a gift that helps us reach Heaven because it makes available to the faithful all the facilities to obtain the “treasure” of the Church: the plenary indulgence, the one that returns the soul to the state in which it was when receiving Baptism.
