Cardinal Reina: Our duty is to discern and order the reforms of Pope Francis

“At this time, while the world burns and few have the value of proclaiming the gospel translating it into a possible and concrete view, humanity appears as sheep without a shepherd,” he said.

Given this, he pointed out that Christ knows the weight that falls “about each of us by continuing his mission, especially when we are looking for the first of his shepherds on earth.”

“I think of the multiple processes of reform of the Church’s life initiated by Pope Francis, and who go beyond religious affiliations. People recognized him as a universal shepherd,” he said. “These people,” he added, “she has worrying in my heart and seems to me to discern a question in them: what will be of the processes initiated?”

“Our duty must be to discern and order what is initiated, in the light of what our mission demands, in the direction of a new sky and a new land, adorning the wife (the church) for the husband,” he added.

The cardinal said that “looking for a shepherd today means seeking a guide that knows how to handle the fear of loss before the demands of the Gospel”, that “has the look of Jesus, epiphany of the humanity of God in a world that has inhuman features”, and that “confirm that we must walk together, composing ministries and charisms: We are the people of God constituted to announce the Gospel. ”

“This cannot be the time of juggling, tactics, caution, instincts back, or worse, of revenge and alliances of power, but a radical disposition is needed to enter the dream of God confident to our poor hands,” he said.

Finally, he recalled that “God does not abandon his people” nor leaves his shepherds alone, because the Catholic faith “encloses the promise of a cheerful harvest, but must go through the death of the seed that is our life.”
