Cardinal Juan José Omella, Archbishop of Barcelona (Spain) and member of Pope Francis’ Council of Cardinals, highlighted this Thursday the Christian testimony of the Russian politician opposed to Vladimir Putin, Alekséi Navalny.
“The Russian politician Alekséi Navalny, who recently died in a prison in his country, lived the last stage of his life united with Christ,” the cardinal highlighted through X. “He wanted to be faithful to the Truth,” he added, before quoting the words spoken by Navalny during his trial: “True strength is in the truth, and he who sides with him will triumph.”
Cardinal Omella has also highlighted how Navalny, during the court hearing in which his prison sentence was confirmed, called against repression in the Russian Federation “in the name of God.”
