Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York and one of the conclave voters who chose Pope Leo XIV, shared some reflections at the end of the inauguration Mass of the Pontificate of the first American and Peruvian Pontiff of History.
“We had just left the installation Mass of the Successor of San Pedro, our beloved Pope Leo XIV, and all the readings were about San Pedro,” said the cardinal in a video he shared on his social networks.

This morning, according to local authorities, more than 150,000 people participated in the opening mass of Pontificate of Pope Leo XIV, which he held in the Plaza de San Pedro.
“If you think about it, he (San Pedro) was a sinner, a coward, someone who actually denied knowing Jesus and our Lord transformed him and became the first Pope. He was crucified with his head down,” in Rome, in the hill where the Plaza de San Pedro is now.
“I don’t know about you, but the more I learn from San Pedro, the more hope and joy,” said Dolan.
Cardinal Dolan has been Archbishop of New York since 2009 and continues in office with 75 years. He was created Cardinal in 2012 by Pope Benedict XVI.
The purple has also served as rector of the Pontifical American College in Rome, auxiliary bishop of Saint Louis, archbishop of Milwaukee and Apostolic Administrator of Green Bay.
