The Archbishop of Madrid, Cardinal José Cobo, has already set a date for the act of Recognition and Reparation for the victims that he announced last June during the closing of a congress on abuse in the Catholic Church.
It will be next October 21 at 7:00 p.m. (local time) and will take place in the portico of the Cathedral of La Almudena, as detailed in a note the Archdiocese of Madrid.

During the speech given at the end of the First International Jordan Congress, organized by the Society of Jesus, Cardinal Cobo announced that “a simple act of recognition of victims of abuse” would be held in the Archdiocese.
As announced then, the event will have a religious character in which “recognizing our mistakes, we will express that we want to continue accompanying the victims, putting them at the center of everything, having them as companions on our journey, learning a little more from them every day, to be able to continue advancing in a culture of good treatment and respect inside and outside the Church.”
In the note, the Archdiocese of Madrid states that there is a “special duty” to welcome “the cry of the victims who are in a Church that one day did not know how to protect them, but that has the very serious responsibility of contributing to their healing. They are part of our flock, even if they don’t want to know anything about it.”
Cardinal Cobo’s announcement was made just a month after the Government of Spain proposed, in a specific plan on abuses in the Catholic Church, the celebration of an event of these characteristics.
The Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE), of which the Archbishop of Madrid is vice president, rejected the claim of this act and the entire plan proposed by the Executive in which he denounced “unfair treatment and discrimination.”
The date of the event promoted by Cardinal Cobo has been known a few hours after the CEE announced the launch of the Advisory Commission that will implement the Comprehensive Reparation Plan for Victims of Sexual Abuse approved by the bishops last July.
