In any case, he wanted to influence the fact that the disposition of the cardinals, among which he is not surpassed by 80 years, “is of Christian, evangelical, not of a political order.”
“Here it is not about some prevailing over others, they have their word more authority over others, but to seek to whom the Lord mysteriously has already chosen. That people, situations, pending tasks particularly in our time can discern. That they can discern in the look of the Lord,” he said.
On the other hand, Cardinal Blázquez presented some aspects that have been more striking than what happened in general congregations, meetings in which all cardinals can participate before the conclave.

Cardinal Blázquez was created Cardinal by Pope Francis in the Consistory that took place on February 14, 2015. He is a member of the Dicasteria for the institutes of consecrated life and the societies of Apostolic Life; of the Dicasteria for the doctrine of faith; of the Dicasterio for the Eastern Churches and the Dicas supplies for the divine cult and discipline of the sacraments.

Born in 1942, he was ordained a priest in 1967. He was a doctorate in theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome. Upon his return to the Diocese of Ávila, he was appointed secretary of the Abulense Theological Institute and shortly after he was appointed dean of the Faculty of Theology of the University of Salamanca.
In 1988 he was appointed auxiliary bishop of Santiago de Compostela (1988-1992). He was later appointed Bishop of Palencia (1992-1995) and Bilbao (1995-2010). On April 17, 2010, he took possession as Archbishop of Valladolid, where he exercised his pastoral work until 2022, the year in which Pope Francis accepted his resignation by having exceeded 75 years.
At the Spanish Episcopal Conference he was president in two periods (2205-2008 and 2014-2020). He is currently a member of the Permanent Commission and member of the Cardinals Council of the EEC.
