Car theft does not stop, at least in AMBA, the area of the country most affected by insecurity. This was determined by the latest Vehicle Theft Indicator (IRV) of Comforta company focused on the location and assistance in vehicle recovery.
According to the report, last month the theft of vehicles in the City of Buenos Aires and Greater Buenos Aires grew 35% compared to 2023, being the auto the most stolen type of vehicle, with 62.93%.
The podium is completed by pickups (21.55%) and utility vehicles (7.76%). While motorcycles (5.17%) and trucks (2.59%) appear further back.
The indicator reports that the highest number of robberies occurred on days Thursday (21.85%) and Friday (16.81%). In third place, Mondays (15.97%) and then, Wednesdays (15.13%) and Tuesdays (12.61%). On the contrary, weekend days were when the fewest accidents were recorded, with 10.92% on Saturdays and 6.72% on Sundays.

According to the IRV, most of the robberies were committed by two criminals (40.54% of cases), being the armed robbery the modality that most prevailed with 68.10% of the cases. Of them, 98.73% were committed on public roads, setting a trend that has remained firm in recent months.
Despite this, Ituran warned of the increase in vehicle thefts by gangs that use signal inhibitors. According to the companies, there are increasingly more complaints and police operations against the perpetrators of this type of crime.
Jammers are electronic devices designed to emit radio frequency signals that interfere with the signals of vehicle security systems. Using this system, the thief turns on the inhibitor at the same time that the driver gets out of the vehicle without allowing it to receive the signal from the remote control and, therefore, remain open.
“So far this year, a large part of the thefts of 4×4 vehicles have been committed using inhibitors: inexpensive and easily accessible devices on the market. Using this technology, criminals can block the signal and easily enter the vehicle,” explained Daniela Medina, manager of the Ituran Argentina Command and Control Center.
Ituran’s IRV was created with data obtained based on its portfolio of more than 350,000 vehicles monitored with geolocation systems throughout Argentine territory.
Tips to avoid being a victim of inhibitors
Security specialists provided three tips to avoid possible theft of your car under this modality that is becoming more and more present in the country:
