Anne Line was hanged at Tyburn the next day with two priests, one of whom had been her confessor: Fr Roger Filcock.
Before being executed, the woman repeated the statement she had given at her trial: “I am condemned to die for harboring a Catholic priest, and I am far from regretting having done so. I would have wished, with all my soul, to have hosted a thousand!”
Father Filcock, still hanging from the gallows, proclaimed: “O blessed Lady Line, who has now received her reward, you have been before us, but we will quickly follow you to bliss, if it pleases the Almighty.”
Before he died, Fr Filcock prayed alongside Fr Mark Barkworth, who was later hanged and quartered.
