This edition is known as the 42 line Bible, Gutenberg Bible o Bible of Mazarino and it is a version of the Vulgate Biblea translation into Latin made in the 4th century by Saint Jerome, who was commissioned by Pope Damasus I. The appellation of 42 line bible refers to the number of lines printed, in two columns, on each page.
Currently, 48 copies are preserved, of which only 21 are complete, which are found in Austria, France (2), Germany (3), Portugal, Russia, Spain, United Kingdom (7), United States (5) .
Curiously, the Vatican Apostolic Library only has two copies, one on parchment and the other on paper, both incomplete.
