BMW continues to electrify its range in the country. After the launches of several hybrid models during the last two years, the German brand presented the iX2, the first 100% electric vehicle sold in the local market.
The BMW iX2 was presented along with its pair with a thermal engine; Both come from Germany and represent the eighteenth novelty from BMW Argentina so far this year, between cars, motorcycles and new technologies.
With this launch the brand has the entire X range (SUVs) in Argentina, composed of the models X1, X2 (the only one with an electric version), X3 (plug-in hybrid), X4, X5 (mild hybridization), X6 (mild hybridization) and X7 (mild hybridization).
It is worth remembering that in line with its electric landing in the region, BMW Group has decided to invest 724 thousand euros in Latin America to strengthen the public charging network for electrified vehicles.
The company highlighted that Argentina is one of the countries in the region where they will install the new chargers for electric cars and plug-in hybrids, although the number has not yet been reported.
An electric with good autonomy
The iX2 is now available in Argentina in its version xDrive30 M Sportwhose value is $129,900 and includes the Wallbox home charger.
It is equipped with two electric motors – one for each axle – that together generate a maximum power of 313 horsepower (230 kW) and a torque of 494 Nm that allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds. The maximum speed, for its part, is 180 km/h.
Both motors are powered by a 64.7 kWh capacity battery that can be charged with alternating current at 11 kW (taking about 6.5 hours from 0 to 100%) or 22 kW (3 hours and 45 minutes from 0 to 100%). ).
According to BMW, with one charge the iX2 can achieve autonomy between 417 and 449 kilometersdepending on driving modes and conditions. Adaptive regenerative braking and Max Range function also contribute to the range figures.
Aesthetically, its silhouette is identical to that of the gasoline version, except for some details. For example, in this version the grill is closed or blind, while in the standard variant, it is not. In both cases, the edges of the huge kidneys that make up the grill have an LED lighting strip.
While the interior is exactly the same, except for small decorative motifs such as the brand logo on the steering wheel which, in this version, is surrounded by a blue circle in reference to its electric propulsion system.
Both offer the same space and capabilities. The two screens joined in a single piece are also the same: 10.25 and 10.7 inches for the instrument panel and multimedia system respectively, with BMW’s 9.0 operating system.
X2 second generation
For its part, the gasoline variant is offered in the version xDrive20i M Sportwhich has a sales value of $94,900.
It is equipped with the 2.0-liter turbo engine, which delivers 204 horsepower and is associated with an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system.
In terms of dimensions, this second generation (it was launched in Europe in 2023) is larger than the previous one. It grew by 194 millimeters to reach 4,554 mm in length, but is also 21 millimeters wider (1,845 mm) and 64 millimeters taller (1,590 mm). In addition, its longer wheelbase and longer track improve the interior space in the cabin and the trunk, which is now 560 liters (90 more than its predecessor).
In terms of design, the shark-like trunk features LED lights and the almost hexagonal grille, which – for the first time in the compact segment – offers BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting.
At the rear, on the other hand, the prominent fenders stand out. The contours of the optics also stand out, as does the small Gurney-type spoiler.
