Blanca confirms a meeting between vice president JD Vance and Cardinal Pietro Parolin

The White House officially confirmed that the United States vice president, JD Vance, will meet with the Secretary of State of the Vatican, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, during his next official visit to Italy.

According to a statement released today by the press office of the United States vice president, Vance will make an official visit to Italy and India from April 18 to 24. In Rome, in addition to meeting with the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, the politician will be in the Vatican with Cardinal Parolin.

Meanwhile, the Holy See press office has not yet confirmed the meeting. In any case, in view of his convalescence, it is not expected that Pope Francis, who is recovering from bilateral pneumonia and has reduced his agenda, participates in the appointment, whose details have not yet been revealed.

Italy will be the only country that visits Vance on its tour planned by Europe. In India, it is expected that Vance will meet with the prime minister, Narendra Modi, and to participate in cultural activities in other cities such as New Delhi, Jaipur and Agra.

In a meeting at the Pontifical Gregorian University, in November last year, before the inauguration of Donald Trump, Cardinal Parolin was questioned by the press by the phrase pronounced by the then elected president of the United States, who after his victory said: “I will not start wars but stop them.”

“Hopefully it is so,” said the Prelate, who, however, said that to end armed conflicts “there is a lot of humility, much will, it is really necessary to seek the general interests of humanity, instead of focusing on particular interests.”

He also wanted Trump to govern, above all, with “much wisdom,” the main virtue that the rulers must have, according to the Bible.

“I think he has to work, above all, to be president of the whole country, to overcome the polarization that has occurred, which has been felt very clearly at this time,” insisted Cardinal Parolin.
