Bishops of Europe encourage Catholics to vote in elections

The president of the Commission of the Episcopal Conferences of the European Union (COMECE), Mons. Mariano Crociata, encouraged citizens, and especially Catholics, to participate in the European elections to be held next Sunday, June 9.

Mons. Crociata invited to vote “responsibly, choosing candidates and parties that continue to build a better Europe for all.”

The Italian prelate representing the European bishops also stressed the importance of building “a better Europe for all with shared and authentic values.”

Along these lines, he urged citizens to exercise their right to vote so that Europe “promotes peace, both inside and outside our continent, justice, human rights, democracy, solidarity and care for our common home.” .

Likewise, the president of COMECE referred to the joint declaration of the European bishops of March 13 regarding these elections.

In it, the prelates affirmed that the European Union “is not perfect” and that many of its political and legal proposals “are not in line with Christian values ​​and with the expectations of many of its citizens, but we believe that we are called to contribute and improve it with the tools that democracy offers us.”

“We want to improve it together using the democratic tools we have, starting with our right to vote,” they noted on that occasion.

After the elections on June 9, the European Parliament and Commission will be formed and the results will determine the policies that the European Union will lead for the next 5 years.
