“Within the framework of this audience, the bishops extended an official invitation to make a pastoral visit to Peru,” said the CEP.
Leo XIV, born in Chicago (United States) as Robert Francis Prevost in 1955, lived in Peru about 20 years, if we add the different moments in which he made various orders, from Vicar Parrochial of Chulucanas, in Piura, to Bishop of Chiclayo. In 2015 he obtained Peruvian nationality.
The same day of his choice as Pope, on May 8, 2025, before giving his first apostolic blessing “City and the World“Leo XIV remembered the Diocese of Chiclayo,” where a faithful people have accompanied his bishop, has shared his faith and has given so much, so much, to continue being a faithful church of Jesus Christ. “
His missionary work in Peru was registered in the documentary recently released by the Vatican under the title Leon of Peru.
According to the CEP, Mons. García Camader gave him a letter to the Pope this June 30, expressing “in the name of all the bishops and the Peruvian people, the deep affection and closeness to the Holy Father”, while thanking him for having a special place for Peru in his heart.
