The Episcopal Conference of Colombia (CEC) called for a day of prayer —next August 4— for the needs of Venezuela and Colombia, “so that around prayer we strengthen the ties of fraternity and encourage efforts and actions that favor the solution of their worrying social and political context.”
“The Bishops of the border between the two nations continue to lead humanitarian actions in favor of the migrant and displaced population. The other Bishops, within both countries, continue to contribute decisively from our particular churches to the processes of reconciliation, justice and peace in the regions. How can we not all unite in confident prayer, asking God to continue giving us his light and strength in the search for the common good and peace? “said the CEC.

In addition, the day will revolve around the psalm: “The Lord gives strength to his people; “The Lord blesses his people with peace” (Psalm 29:11). As they explained, the complicated reality that both countries are going through demands a “joint action of brothers” and full confidence that the Lord will help “to overcome the worsening of violence due to the internal Colombian conflict and the uncertainty regarding the Venezuelan electoral process.” ”.
Finally, the Colombian bishops—led by Bishop Francisco Javier Múnera, Archbishop of Cartagena and president of the CEC—entrusted both towns to the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Hope, especially under the invocations of Our Lady of Coromoto and Our Lady of Chiquinquirá.
“She, as a Mother always attentive to the needs of her children, help us achieve, with her intercession, unity and peace,” they concluded.
