Bishop mourns deaths in armed attack in Morelos, Mexico

The Catholic Church expressed its deep sorrow for the death of five people in an armed attack that occurred in the municipality of Huitzilac, in the Mexican state of Morelos, south of Mexico City, within the framework of a political campaign for the election of authorities. local.

César Dávila Díaz, municipal president of Huitzilac, confirmed in a Facebook post that the attack occurred on Monday, January 13 in the San Juan neighborhood. “I strongly condemn this act of violence that not only mourns families in our community, but also violates the peace and security that we all deserve,” he said.

Mons. Ramón Castro Castro, Bishop of Cuernavaca, the capital of the state of Morelos, expressed in a statement his closeness with the families of the victims and the community priest.

In his message, Bishop Castro Castro raised his prayer asking God “to receive our brothers with mercy in his eternal kingdom. Likewise, we pray for the comfort of your loved ones, so that they find strength in the midst of this pain and may experience the peace that only God can offer.”

“In the face of this tragedy,” the bishop added, “I want to remind you that we are not alone. Christ, who suffered on the cross for us, understands our suffering and walks by our side in this valley of tears. His resurrection assures us that, even in the midst of darkness, the light of hope and life prevails.”

Likewise, the president of the Conference of the Mexican Episcopate (CEM) also called on the competent authorities so that “this very violent act will not go unpunished, but rather that by doing justice we continue working together to eradicate this type of acts.”

For his part, he invited the community to “stay united, reject any form of violence and build paths of reconciliation and peace,” expressing his confidence “that the Lord will do justice and renew our hope in a future of peace and harmony.”
