The recently appointed president of the Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE), Mons. Luis Argüello, Archbishop of Valladolid, has called on the laity to be the vanguard of the Catholic Church in society, during his first appearance alongside Cardinal Cobo, who will occupy the vice presidency during the next four years.
In response to questions from the media, the Archbishop of Valladolid stressed, on behalf of the bishops: “We are hoping that the laity will pull us along, that their desire to be present will also make us spur our vocation to pastoral ministry.”
In this sense, he explained that it is part of the vocation of the Catholic Church to be present in public life and, in a special way, through the laity whose call “has its own identity and spirituality that is called political charity.”
