Father Rosas later pointed out that it seemed “careless” that Father Keyes “simply accepted and just let me know,” but finally, being the parish priest, he accepted that the blessing take place. “I said, ‘Okay, I’m not going to do drama either.’”
However, he said that with the intention of avoiding “leading to confusion” and thinking that “the instructions (of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith) are being ignored,” Father Rosas made the decision to give the blessing at the end of the Mass.
Later, Fr. Rosas recalled, the faithful present were told that Fr. Patrick “did not marry them, nor did we disrespect them. He only gave them the blessing, as indicated in the document (Begging for confidence)”.
In addition, he indicated that it is the first time that they have asked for a blessing, because “we never gave blessings of anything at this Mass.”
