The Order of Frailes Carmelitas Descalzos in Central America announced that, after more than 50 years of presence in Nicaragua, they will leave their headquarters in the Our Lady of Carmen parish in Managua, the capital of the country, adducing lack of vocations in the country.
Through a statement Signed this January 23 by Fray Edgardo Hernández, provincial of the Order, the religious order thanked Cardinal Leopoldo Brenes and the community of the Archdiocese of Managua, “which have accompanied us during all this time of grace, in which we have lived the goodness and closeness of God the Father, in the various pastoral services. ”

Likewise, Fray Edgardo said that each of the friars who have lived and served in Nicaragua “present our prayer of thanksgiving to God for the gift of having made a way of faith with so many parishioners, of having celebrated the joy of the Marian devotion and the deepening in the experience of the Eucharistic faith. ”
“From the charism that God has given Santa Teresa de Jesus, we have provided our pastoral service, facilitating the prayer and spirituality of Jesus, true friend,” said the statement.
In addition, it was reported that, if God allows it, “when we have more vocations, we can return.” For now, he assured his fraternal prayer and entrusted to the parish Our Lady of Carmen and the entire Catholic Church in Nicaragua to the Purísima Concepción de María.
The order also announced that it will be on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at 5:00 pm (local time), when Cardinal Brenes, in the celebration of the Mass, will assign the new pastor.
