Shortly after the stabbing, protesters began rioting outside Christ the Good Shepherd Church, resulting in some property damage and blocking emergency services.
“The unfortunate events that took place outside the church caused unnecessary delays and danger to both victims, paramedics and police,” Kochou said, noting that the church “does not condone” activities that caused property damage, injuries and delays in attendance due to unrest.
“I need you to act like Christ,” the Orthodox bishop said. “The Lord Jesus never taught us to fight. The Lord Jesus never taught us to retaliate. The Lord Jesus never told us ‘an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ The Lord Jesus said, ‘Never return evil with evil, but return evil with good.'”
“My loved ones, I want you to always be calm,” he continued. “We have to always be law-abiding citizens. We have to cooperate with law enforcement…whether at the state or federal level.”
