Attack against Miguel Uribe Turbay: Bishops of Colombia reject the attack of June 7, 2025

The Bishops of Colombia rejected and condemned “the recent attack perpetrated against Dr. Miguel Uribe Turbay, presidential candidate” of the opposition Democratic Center, which occurred on Saturday 7 of Junios in Bogotá, one year after the elections, a fact that has shocked the country.

In a Communiqué published this Sunday, June 8the bishops said they were “dismayed and outraged” for the attack against Uribe Turbay and asked that “fall on the intellectual and material authors of this attack on the social conviction and the overwhelming weight of the law.”

As reported Snailthis Saturday, around 5:00 pm, a 15 -year -old teenager shot Uribe Turbay in the skull, when he was facing a large group of followers in a park in the Modelia neighborhood, in Fontibón, the west of Bogotá.

According to the Colombian media, the attacker would be 15 years old and after fleeing the place of the events, security agents of the presidential candidate and the police managed to capture him, and then take him to a health center for the bullet wounds he received.

“All forms of violence is condemnable and the violence caused, calculated and used as a strategy to generate chaos, disqualify or exterminate the contradictor, is malevolent and perverse,” said bishops in their statement.

After encouraging Colombians to always reject violence, the bishops sympathized with the family of Miguel Uribe Turbay and called “to unite in insistent prayer for their health and recovery.”

Who is Miguel Uribe Turbay?

Miguel Uribe Turbay is a senator and presidential candidate of Colombia, born in 1986 in Bogotá. He is a lawyer from the University of Los Andes and has a mastery of the Harvard University Government School.
