With a spirit of simple and deep prayer, the album seeks to “take the listener to real moments of community prayer,” Athenas explained in statements to ACI Press. “The guitar and the voice are backs back to very specific experiences of community, withdrawals, prayer groups. The selection of the themes, explained the artist, was the fruit of a long discernment, which included surveys in social networks. “We were choosing songs that had no contemporary versions or that we wanted to version. We also included three Argentine compositions that are not so well known outside the country, but that we believe that the repertoire of the whole Church can enrich a lot,” he said.

Many of these issues had already been previously published as singles and received a massive response from the public, with hundreds of thousands of reproductions.
“Several are in the top 10 of our most listened to music. People connect with these songs because they have accompanied them since childhood, in their first catechesis or even in difficult times such as the departure of a loved one,” Athenas said.
A tribute to Catholic composers
With this project, Athenas and Tobias also wanted to pay tribute to those who have created these songs: “We want to deeply thank all the composers for allowing us to make our versions,” he said. Among them are Ariel Glaser, Mechi Ruiz Luque, Fernando Moser, Javier Gacías, Father Lucas Casaert, the Betsaida Group and Jorge Luis Bohorquez.
“Classic Catholics was a two -year spiritual journey. We started with six songs, we saw the fruits and decided to continue with six more. There were moments of joy, from Cruz, but always by the hand of the Lord,” said the singer.

“These songs arouse a spiritual tenderness that returns us to our first steps in faith. They are a way to return to the heart,” Athena concluded.
International production
The album was produced by Tobias Buteler, husband of Athenas, and engraved between Buenos Aires and Nashville, Tennessee. The guitars were in charge of Matt Podela, guitarist of Matt Maher, and the mixture and mastering were made by Mateo Rodo. The voices were recorded in the study of Francesco Mazza, who also collaborated in the vocal postproduction.
The album’s video clips were filmed by Faro Films in two emblematic temples of Buenos Aires: the María Auxiliadora and San Carlos Basilica, and the Basilica of the Holy Spirit, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish.
In addition, the covers of the singles were illustrated by Catholic artists from different countries, and the main cover of the album was created by Carlos Mujica by Good Gifts Media.
