It is now possible to study the first year of the Bachelor of theology of the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum (APRA) – a educational institution promoted by the legionaries of Christ in Rome – completely at a distance and in Spanish, after the approval of the Holy See.
It is a new study mode, which expands the academic offer specifically in two specialties: dogmatic theology and spiritual theology.

The APRA points out that this initiative “represents a significant step towards the integration of new technologies in high quality theological education and offers important advantages for all its students.”
The institution recalls that the Bachelor of Theology is aimed at priests, religious, seminarians and laity. The educational program enables the student to “achieve a personal theological synthesis in their specialization, acquire adequate preparation in their area of deepening, learn the scientific research method and prepare for teaching”.
“In the specialty in dogmatic theology, in addition to studying the great doctors such as Santo Tomás, we give special importance to the deepening of Joseph Ratzinger’s theological thinking as an example of dialogue between faith and culture,” explains the APRA in a note sent to ACI Press.
“In the specialty in spiritual theology we study the great masters of spiritual life, and give relevance to the competences to be a spiritual director, trainer and director of spiritual exercises,” he adds.
The modality of studies online this especially scheduled for the American continentsince all classes are offered at the morning schedule of the hemisphere, only two days a week (Tuesday and Wednesday, from 3:00 p.m. to 19: 45-Hora Local de Rome).
The program includes a personalized tutoring plan for each student, especially aimed at research and writing the final dissertation necessary to obtain the license.
The subjects of this first year are taught entirely in Spanish by “professors of international prestige”, which guarantees “a deep understanding and a high -level training,” according to the Athenaeum.
The APRA points out that the second year of the degree must be completed in Rome, in person and in Italian, so that since the first year, language reinforcement classes are offered.
The first year, a distance taken, “eliminates economic barriers that could hinder access to higher education,” says the institution.
This new modality “represents an unprecedented opportunity for those who wish to deepen their understanding of theology, without geographical limits or temporary restrictions,” he adds.
