Being loyal once again to his simplicity, Cardinal Karlic honors what he has been given, by affirming that his primary saints are their names: Saint Stanislaus and Saint Stephen. He also likes to feel close to the Pope through Peter, his saint.
However, when praying, his formulas are simple: on the one hand, he considers himself “profoundly Marian” and seeks the intercession of the Virgin, without a particular devotion. And with absolute simplicity he affirms: “The father, the son and the Holy Spirit, this is how I pray. The Holy Trinity: the Father, who sent us his Son and his Holy Spirit, and makes us live in the Church.”
What does a 98-year-old Cardinal ask for when he prays? “Identification with the Church of today, which is the Church of always. To be another Christ, that is, to be a son of the Church, Son of the Father and a living member of the Church here and now, and forever.”
“I want a Church that is whole and pure, and always asking for criteria to distinguish what is truly living the mystery of the Church, from what is not true. For example, in temporal matters, what things are from God and what are not.”
