Argentina: San Juan celebrated the jubilee of politics with a call to be sowers of hope

Political leaders, officials, referents from different parties and citizens congregated this Saturday in the city of San Juan (Argentina) to participate in a day dedicated to the jubilee of politics, under the slogan “sowers of hope. The policy at the service of the common good and human dignity.”

Organized by the Justice and Peace Commission and headed by the Archbishop of San Juan de Cuyo, Mons. Jorge Lozano, the activity focused on reflection, prayer and the search for greater social commitment.

The words of welcome were in charge of Dr. Germán Grosso, who highlighted the importance of creating spaces for dialogue to strengthen a policy that pursues the common good.

In turn, the Vice Governor of San Juan, Dr. Fabián Martín, considered that the jubilee is an opportunity to renew the commitment to democratic values, the service to the people and respect for diversity.

Later, those present prayed the prayer for the homeland and paid tribute to Pope Francis with a video, remembering that it was he who summoned this jubilee.

They participated in the intendant reflection panel and legislators, who shared their testimonies about the political vocation and showed the current challenges, as well as the importance of building a culture of the meeting and solidarity.

The day concluded with a message from the archbishop of San Juan de Cuyo, Mons. Jorge Lozano, who encouraged politicians to live their vocation with faith and hope. “The political vocation has the special called to be sowers of hope of a better world, which can live without war, without hatred and without violence, where there is room for everyone,” he said.

Those present were then directed in procession from the EMAR Acosta Auditorium of the Annex of the Provincial Legislature to the Parish Our Lady of Guadalupe, where the Jubilee Mass was held.

Together with bread and wine, the National Constitution, the Argentine Flag, signals with the beatitudes and the cross of Santo Tomás Moro, patron of politicians, were offered.

The central exhortation of Mass was to renew the commitment to a policy at the service of justice, equity and human dignity. Within that framework, Mons. Lozano warned that many times “we don’t have our hearts to change things.”

Given this, he called to assume the status of citizens, because “being a citizen is a moral obligation in the sense of being an active part of a people.”

In that sense, he recalled one of the principles set forth by Pope Francis in his apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium: “Time is superior to space.” This reality, he said, “allows you to work in the long term without obsessing with immediate results. That allows a community project to have.”

At the end of the celebration, the organizers called to continue building a province and a nation in which “hope does not disappoint.”
