The Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Sports of the Nation officially launched the Call for the fifth edition of the initiative Best Tourism Villagespromoted by UN Tourism.
This program was born in 2021 and seeks to highlight the Rural peoples that stand out for their beauty, their traditions and their commitment to sustainability, positioning them as tourist destinations that must be known.
“This UN Tourism initiative is One more window to show the world The wonderful natural landscapes of our country, along with the warmth of our people, their gastronomy and local culture, “said Daniel Scioli, secretary of Tourism, Environment and Sports of the Nation.
He added: “It is an opportunity for our rural peoples to position themselves as high -value tourist destinations.”
In the 2024 edition, Argentina shone with four awarded peoples:
- Caviahue-Copahue (Neuquén),
- Gaiman (Chubut),
- Trevelin (Chubut)
- Villa Tulumba (Córdoba).
These destinations were selected for their focus on sustainable tourism, the cultural preservation and the Integration of your communities.
In addition, Campo Ramón, in Misiones, joined the Upgrade program, an instance of improvement for peoples with great potential.

What are the requirements that nominee must meet
Currently and after five successful editions, the Best Tourism Villages Network of UN Tourism has 254 members worldwide: more than 180 villages recognized as Best Tourism Villages and 70 participants of the Upgrade program.
To participate, the villages must meet three key requirements established by UN Tourism:
- have a low demographic density; The population must be less than 15,000 inhabitants,
- Be located in a natural environment with traditional activities such as agriculture, livestock, fishing or forestry,
- Share the values and tourist lifestyle of the community.

Who chooses the candidates
The Secretariat will be responsible for choosing Argentine representatives, based on an evaluation of the proposals sent by each municipality.
As it happened in previous editions, a Professional Committee He will be responsible for analyzing each candidacy.

The provinces can send more than one proposal, always with the endorsement of the provincial tourism area.
Until when there is time to present candidates
The deadline for Registration of the candidacies ends on April 21so interested municipalities have time until that date to present their proposals. Then the Secretariat must register its candidates before May 19, 2025.
