Argentina: Christian businessmen call for a deep, respectful debate without grievances

The Christian Association of Business Leaders (ACDE), founded by the Venerable Servant of God Enrique Shaw, spoke out in favor of ideas being debated in Argentina “without grievances or disqualifications” to those who think differently.

The association’s message comes after speech At the national launch of La Libertad Avanza, the party that governs Argentina, President Javier Milei referred to journalists and the media with insults and grievances.

In this context, ACDE recognized the difficulty that the country has been going through for years in promoting sustainable public policies, which require “a constructive prior process of dialogue and search for consensus.”

At one point, businessmen attributed Argentina’s insufficient economic performance to the impossibility of reaching agreements. This, they noted, “has an impact today on alarming levels of poverty.”

For this reason, they considered that “changing this reality requires a deep debate within society; question beliefs and prejudices and open ourselves to actively listening to those who think differently than us.”

In line with the government, ACDE admits that certain changes in practices and ideas are necessary, with the objective of “promoting private activity, defending the right to property and stimulating business economic investment, generating wealth, work and inclusion.”

That is the necessary debate “to change conceptual frameworks that have deposited us in an unprecedented social reality that is so serious,” he warned.

Respect, democracy and pluralism

However, he clarified that “this debate must be promoted within the framework of respect, persuasion based on arguments that strengthen our democracy and the pluralism necessary for the consensus reached to be lasting.”

For this reason, the Christian Association of Business Leaders called on the country’s political and business leadership, “starting with its highest representatives,” to promote respect and listening, “leaving aside grievances and insults that even deteriorate plus a present that requires unity of thought and action from us to change it.”

What is ACDE?

ACDE is an association of business leaders, whose objective is to become a forum for analysis and reflection on business issues in light of Christian values.

Likewise, it focuses on action, through its social commitment in business work governed by ethical principles and at the service of the common good.
