Cardinal Eduardo Pironio was born on December 3, 1920 in the Argentine province of Nueve de Julio and died on February 5, 1998 in the Vatican. He was president and secretary general of the Latin American Episcopal Council (CELAM), and president of the Pontifical Council for the Laity, a position he held between 1984 and 1996.
Blessed Pironio will help Argentina renew hope
In statements to ACI Prensa, the Bishop of Nueve de Julio, Mons. Ariel Torrado Mosconi, expressed the joy of the local Church for the beatification of Cardinal Eduardo Pironio.
“We thank God because Cardinal Pironio is going to be a reason to renew hope for all Argentines, and especially in Nueve de Julio, his homeland, so we will celebrate him with great joy tomorrow,” he assured.
