In reference to the young people and new generations who did not know the future blessed, Carbajal pointed out that the cardinal mentions them especially in his spiritual testament. “As the inspirer of World Youth Days commissioned by Saint John Paul II, Pironio has such a topical message for the youth generations…” he stated.
“I met him when I was very young and I fell in love with his preaching of a young Church, ‘always young’ he said: the Church of Easter, the poor Church, the prophetic Church. I think that each of these characteristics, when he was thinking about them, he was thinking about the face of each of the young people, there in Mar del Plata, almost at the end of his life, he shared a phrase that I think is beautiful: ‘Who will we pass this torch to?’” he recalled.
In this regard, he assured: “Every time a WYD is celebrated, every time you see the youth meeting in Argentina, you feel like you can say: Cardinal, this torch is still alive.”
For this reason, he invited all generations “to get to know him, to delve into his message, to find the spiritual harmony between him and what Pope Francis proposes to us with the Joy of the Gospel, to transmit the good news of Jesus, the hope of glory, as he also liked to say. It is worth knowing him.”
