The Apostolic Administrator of Mar del Plata, Mons. Ernesto Giobando, took office on Friday, January 19, and celebrated his first Mass in the local Cathedral, after two elected bishops successively resigned from that diocese in Argentina in less than three months.
An apostolic administrator is chosen to take interim charge of a diocese or ecclesiastical jurisdiction while the see is vacant and therefore until the appointment of the next bishop.
“Four days ago I found out about this pastoral task, and I was excited about it. I’m not coming on vacation, I’m coming to accompany you, to be with you,” said the Auxiliary Bishop of Buenos Aires.
