The Archbishop of Ibagué, Bishop Orlando Roa Barbosa, consecrated the local Church and Colombia to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, in a ceremony held yesterday in the cathedral.
“In this ceremonial of San Juan Bautista, we make the consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Parra Santa María of our city of Ibagué, the department of Tolima and Colombia,” said the prelate. in a video published on the archdiocese’s social networks.

At the event, attended by local authorities, Bishop Roa Barbosa invited the faithful to raise “this supplication to the Lord, full of trust and faith, for the peace of Colombia, for the peace of this city, for the peace of our department.”
During the consecration prayer, the archbishop stated that “in the Sacred Heart of Jesus we find the wellspring” of God’s infinite love “that pours forgiveness, peace and healing on all who turn to him with sincere faith.”
“In the Immaculate Heart of Mary,” he added, “we find the safe refuge of a tender and compassionate mother who intercedes for us” before the Lord “and teaches us the path of fidelity.”
The ceremony was held within the year of preparation to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the creation of the Diocese of Ibagué and the golden anniversary of its archdiocesan elevation.
